In “troubles-scarred” Derry/Londonderry Northern Ireland as in economically ravaged Detroit, earthquake devastated Nepal, and other communities, David Best and the Temple Crew have built unique, artistic and architecturally beautiful public structures affording calm and sanctuary. These non-religious works of art are healing spaces where people are free to express and reflect upon their deepest emotions: love, grief, joy, sorrow, celebration and remembrance.
Derry, Ireland afforded the opportunity to create a work of art that nothing or no one else had accomplished in four decades. Protestants and Catholics and the IRA left their weapons, differences and grievances outside. They entered with respect of one another, acknowledging the past and greeting each other -ready to move on. This was a remarkable scenario.
